REVIEW: HAUNT AT HERITAGE HILL

For the past decade, The City of Lake Forest and OC Parks have transformed Heritage Hill Historic Park into “Haunt At Heritage Hill”. Beautifully decorated with Halloween lights, this event contained three DIY mazes, pop-up scares, and a DJ’d outdoor dance floor area located within a historic set of buildings dating back to the 1800’s.

The three mazes were great, and our favorite one began in the oldest schoolhouse in Orange County. Once inside the historic building, we walked into a dimly lit haunted homeroom where many classic horror figures came to life. As we continued outside to enter the maze, we were consistently surprised by Michael Myers coming at us. Jason Voorhees lurked in the shadows along with nuns and demons. At one point, a Demogorgon from Stranger Things flew out of a closet and took us away to The Upside Down. There were several very impressive mechanics throughout this maze, which we attributed to the work of an engineer/builder who also works with the Los Angeles Live Steamers classic attraction, the Ghost Train.

Haunt At Heritage Hill had an incredible amount of festive and vibrant energy, unaffected by the rain and winds which damaged most of their decorations and mazes. The Haunt’s dedicated crew of volunteers worked tirelessly to put this event back together, resulting in a flawless and thoroughly enjoyable attraction.

Even though Haunt at Heritage Hill is already closed for the season, we plan on making an annual trek to future events paired up with visits to their neighbor, Sinister Pointe.
