review: fear in 3d: the experiment

We often have reservations when we see mazes advertised as being in 3D. This type of illusion is often exploited for marketing purposes - but doesn’t deliver a satisfying experience. However, we are really pleased to say that we found (thanks to Westcoaster!) one of the best 3D mazes ever: Fear in 3D in Chino Hills.

Fear in 3D is a really enjoyable and wonderfully executed experience whose look takes you back to the carnival painting style of 1980’s sideshows. This style makes sense when you learn that the artwork of the maze was created by Stuartizm Designs, whose speciality is airbrush painting for haunted houses, laser tag arenas, and carnivals. Wearing the 3D glasses really makes the artwork feel three dimensional, with neon colored images popping out right in front of you.

Another impressive trait of this haunt is that it is surprisingly large and filled with really great characters. The theme of this haunt is that you are part of a science experiment that takes your through an asylum, a swamp, and a spider area, all the while encountering strange doctors, twisted clowns, and violent werewolves (who surprisingly at one point are hitting their cages so hard that sparks fly!).

This is Fear in 3D’s first official season - and they have made a very impressive start to what we hope will be a long-lasting residence in the haunt world. The talent behind this haunt is the family who runs The Christmas Light Guy Co., and they are therefore very knowledgeable about festive lighting and decor. On top of that, they have enlisted magician Justin Arrigo as an adviser to make Fear in 3D even more enthralling. We hope you will visit this exciting new attraction and enjoy a truly remarkable Halloween experience.
