Review: Rosehill Haunt

Throughout the years, Rosehill Haunt has been lighting up its Studio City street with a festive walkthrough display - bringing the Halloween Spirit to life in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere. Evolving artistically with every passing season, this haunt has included everything from small interactive plays, to animatronics, to handpainted scenery. Rosehill Haunt’s creator is Ben Conway, and even though he is only 18, he has already made an indelible impression on the haunt community.

In this 2020 season, Rosehill Haunt lives within the boundaries of a display instead of its past walkthrough format. This new format is actually beneficial for visitors because they can enjoy looking at years of Ben’s work as presented through a seamless yard display. Overlooking the glowing, blacklight cemetery (complete with an impressive handpainted backdrop) is the front yard's massive tree. Its limbs, covered in festive jack-o’-lanterns, dance among the orange and green lights of the cemetery. Towards the yard's edge is a shack decorated with vintage jack-o’-lanterns, where a mummy and little ghost lurk - offering a great photo op for visitors. We have to say that this year’s version of Rosehill Haunt is quite possibly Ben’s best display to date.

We love Rosehill Haunt and it's sad to know that it will be dark for 2021 and the foreseeable future. Ben Conway is expanding his artistic career by attending CalArts, and we are excited to see what the future holds for him. We encourage everyone to visit Rosehill Haunt this week as its return remains uncertain.
