Throughout the years, Los Angeles has had a surprisingly great amount of LGBTQIA haunted houses including ReachLA’s “Reach Beyond Terror” and the infamous 2015 feminist lesbian haunted house “Killjoy’s Kastle”. These notable creations now include a Pride pop-up haunted maze, “Shook!”, brought to you by the innovative minds of Murder House Productions (MHP) and Twisted Haunts.

Both MHP and Twisted are famous for their memorable DIY haunts that have been, for the most part, housed within garages and sections of homes. This year, however, both haunt entities have joined forces to create a world of exquisite nightmares hosted within a large commercial space. “Shook!” celebrates camp and horror, featuring queer icon Babadook and famous scenes from the horror films “Carrie” and “Sleepaway Camp”.

Visitors are allowed to roam the haunt freely - exploring the intimate details of the sets and their meticulous decor. (We highly encourage everyone to really take their time in order to soak in as much as possible.) The superb quality of the set designs is equally matched by the actors, who are beautifully chilling and willing to take part in photo ops. The sets and actors, combined with the expert sound and lighting, create an immersive experience within every single room - leaving you with a gratification that will hold you over until the start of the Halloween haunt season.

While it took some time to wait in line (soothed by a great soundtrack of songs including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PC Music, and Poppy), we would like to state that it was well worth it. Once inside the haunt, we never felt rushed and could really take our time to savor the experience. “Shook!” felt like it was made especially for the enjoyment of each and every visitor thanks to MHP and Twisted pouring their hearts and souls into this production. This is the perfect way to celebrate the month of Pride, and we hope that you're among the lucky people who got tickets for the upcoming sold-out shows this weekend.
