review: the grey phantom

Last year we were all treated for the first time to Norwalk’s The Grey Phantom. This Queen Mary inspired yard display contains a life-size recreation of a Victorian era shipwreck. For 2021, Ernie V., The Grey Phantom’s creator, has brought his cursed ship back with the addition of a walkthrough maze.

While the interior of The Grey Phantom is small, it is still filled with an incredible amount of detail. You will encounter ghostly characters and unexpected scares hidden among the maze. The ship’s meticulous features, like the smoking furnace room and seeing a character drown (an illusion created by the combination of fog, blue lights, and a laser), create a very haunting and impressive experience.

The Grey Phantom is the perfect example of how creative minds can use small spaces to create big experiences. The work of Ernie is truly amazing, and we hope that he continues to expand his story of this cursed, wrecked ship for years to come.
